Longwood: ART

Two months in the making.  A lot of masking tape.  Acrylic on maple veneer plywood. Colors of the world’s flags, with their superficiality revealed through the colorless brush stroke.    Processed with VSCOcam with s1 preset

It started with this  4′ x 8′ plywood sheet a couple of months ago in my garageIMG_8549Mixing paint, and masking off the first area,IMG_8552As the tape added up, it made it really quite difficult to decide on what colors would be complimentary to each other.

Longwood – Interior Sneak Peek

We just had one of our favorite light fixture installed over the soon to be dining area by Flos Italia.  It was designed by Marcel Wanders and it is called Skygarden.  Outside, it’s just a half-sphere painted gold, white, rust or black. But inside, Skygarden is a surprise with a spectacular white plaster floral decoration that is reminiscent of the ceilings found in noble palaces. The Skygarden is a suspension lamp that becomes a decorative element when looking upwards. The Skygarden light is diffused by an inner glass with further embellishment provided by the aluminum filigree detail.

The large wall behind the fixture was also just completed.  The skylights above the wall cast these incredible light streaks down the wall, however if the wall is not perfectly smooth as glass, you can see the imperfections.  We just had them give it another coat of plaster to level everything off.

Longwood: Wood Floors

Finishes!  We finished most of the drywall, and now it’s time for the wood floors.  We got our flooring from our favorite source: Premiere Flooring Solutions.  Our species is Nordic Ash, and they come in wide plants without bevels, it gives it a really clean and crisp look.  The wood planks have a lustrous matte finish.  Stay tuned for more on other matte finishes.

Above: they are applying adhesive onto the subfloor and then each plank is placed and adhered. With a special soft mallet, they finesse the planks into place.  Once they are satisfied, they use a special nailer to further secure the plank.

Above: the orange tool is the nailer gun specially made for wood floors.
